Hawaii became part of the United States in 1959, and since then has become a vacation paradise. The state capital and largest city is Honolulu. The city has an efficient public transportation system, which makes it easy for visitors to get around without a car. Honolulu is on the island of Oahu, adjacent to Waikiki Beach on the south side of the island. The distances between downtown Honolulu, the airport, and Waikiki are short, and visitors can rent a car, scooter, or bicycle. Recognised as some of the world’s most beautiful islands, Hawaii holidays are becoming increasingly popular.
Rising behind Waikiki Beach is Diamond Head, a tall hill that is the most famous Hawaii landmark. Kapiolani Park is a beautiful urban park within Honolulu. The Ala Moana shopping center in Oahu is the largest mall in Hawaii, and beaches at the north end of Oahu host many surfing competitions.
From the Honolulu International Airport, there are frequent daily flights to the nearby islands of Kauai, Maui, Lanai, Molokai, and the island of Hawaii. Maui has great golf courses. Lanai is the smallest and most secluded island, favored by those on their honeymoon. Kauai is the only island west of Honolulu, where the flavor of old Hawaii lingers.
On your next Hawaii holidays make sure you check out the stunning scenery, volcanic mountains and tropical rainforest.
Largest of the Hawaiian islands, Hawaii is commonly known as the Big Island. The second largest city of Hilo is on the Big Island, where the two large active volcanoes of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea occupy much of the island. Part of the island is covered with lava fields, a popular place for hikers. For more information check out the following links:
